#PerfumeCrush: The Body Shop’s new White Musk Smoky Rose Fragrance collection

Untitled-19

Yesterday I attended the  launch of The Body Shop‘s new fragrance, White Musk Smoky Rose at their flagship store in Mall of the Emirates, in celebration of the brand’s 30th anniversary. The event was hosted by Sultan Al Habtoor, franchisee partner of The Body Shop in the UAE and his son. Sophie Labbé, the ‘nose’ behind the ground breaking new scent, also attended as part of the celebrations.

Original White Musk...

WHITE MUSK SMOKY ROSE: A Daring Evening Scent #WhiteMusk

This bold new addition to The Body Shop iconic cruelty-free White Musk range, White Musk Smoky Rose is a tantalising and floriental fragrance. This darkly seductive scent opens with an elegant fusion of bergamot, pink pepper and blackcurrant before rising to a floral-musky heart. Here, a beguiling bouquet of bittersweet tobacco flower and a unique black smoky rose accord is tempered by delicate orange flower. This melts into a sophisticated blend of cruelty-free sensual musks, immortelle flower and olibanum to create a daring fragrance like no other.

#AccessoriesCrush: My top 10 make-up brushes

Before I begin, let me re-iterate the fact that I am NO professional make-up artist or anything! I just LOVE make-up and have managed to master a few key looks by researching my favorite blogs and watching tons & tons of Youtube tutorials!

The one thing they all have in common? Brushes. All of them recommend different ones from professional sets to drugstore cheaper options and after speaking to a few make-up artists I recently met, I’ve built myself a little ‘tool kit‘!

Here are my top 10 make-up brushes which I have used and trusted everyday for the past few months!

Eye Make-Up Brushes

DSC00437

1. MAC Brow Brush (FREE sample) – I got given this little eyebrow brush when I purchased a MAC Eyebrow pen! I use it to blend the colour into my brows for a very natural look

2. Sephora Pro Blending Brush (27) – I know ALL of the bloggers rave about the MAC 217 BUT these brushes are a little too pricey for my liking and since I am not that good of a make-up applier (does that make sense?) I opted for a cheaper yet good option. This one by the Sephora Pro range is great to apply and blend eye shadows!  I do however keep it for special occasion or when attempting to create a ‘smokey eye’ look.

3. Sephora All over Shadow Small Brush (23) – This little brush I use to apply a light shadow in the inner corner of my eyes to give it a brighter look. The small size of the brush makes it very easy to use

4. Sephora Pro Crease Brush (10)  ($20) –  This one was kind of a treat! I noticed a lot of the bloggers used a crease brush to create their smokey eye look and even though I don’t do that everyday I thought I’d treat myself to a special crease brush. Well, now that I’ve used it a few times, I must admit it does help a LOT! It somehow applies the shadow in the right spot and just make blending the pigments into the crease a lot easier so very very pleased with myself here!

5. Sephora All Over Shadow Brush (22) – I do have a few of these in case I’m using different colours.  They are just perfect to apply your everyday eye shadow all over the eye lid.

6. Sephora Smudge Brush (14) – Again, this is another one that was strongly recommended by the expert make-up bloggers & artists! When you line your eye pen over your lash line, you simply run the brush over and it smudges the colour for a more natural blended effect. I use this one most days actually and really like it.

Face Make-Up Brushes

1. The Body Shop Face & Body Brush – This one I recently got from The Body Shop when I bought a Bronzer there. I really like it actually, it just deposits your bronzer or face powder very lightly on the skin, allows you to build up the colour and is just super soft!

2. Sephora Pro Stippling Brush (44) – Look at me with all my Pro brushes?! Hehe! I picked up this one when I bought my eye shadow and crease brushes from Sephora. I kept on seeing a couple of my favourite bloggers using a Stippling brush to apply their foundations or BB creams and thought I’d do the same. Not saying I don’t like it BUT somehow I still find it easier to apply these with my fingers… I must give it another go this week and really learn how to use that one properly because it is said to give you a much lighter, even & natural coverage so….!

3. Yves Rocher Blusher Brush – I think this may have been one of the very first brush I bought! I’ve had it for years and got it from my local Yves Rocher store in France. They have these everywhere though so you can get yours from Sephora or any other make-up stores. The angled brush makes it easy to apply your blush and/or bronzer to contour your face.

Tip: Don’t forget to clean your brushes on a weekly basis to avoid bacteria build-up! You can either use a proper brush cleaning product (MAC and Sephora offer very good ones) or, like me, use water and a little hand-wash soap. Pat dry with a tissue, re-shape and leave them to dry out properly overnight.

In-flight beauty essentials

#beautycrush: Come fly with me…

So tomorrow you all know (I’ve been facebooking my daily count-down!) I’ll be jetting off home to the South of France for a much much needed holiday!

I’ve already blogged about my Summer Holiday Capsule Make-Up Bag

Now I wanted to share with you my ‘In-Flight Beauty Essentials‘… yes, I do have a little beauty kit for when I fly long-haul… as you do!

No need to remind you that when in an airplane, your skin gets completely dried-out by the air-con and, if you’re wearing make-up, well it probably will end up down your face by the time you land. SO, here are a few tips on how to emerge on that tarmac looking fab & glam (or at least, fairly refreshed!).

First off girls, please do me a favor and TAKE OFF that make-up before take-off (if that makes sense)! There. Sorted.

Now, before you doze off, take a wipe and clean up your face. I use the Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Wipes.

Spritz a little ‘mineral water mist’ to complete the cleansing process. I really like the Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray.

Pat dry with a clean tissue.

Then, apply a rich moisturizer (you should re-apply every couple of hours to keep the moisture locked in throughout). I’ll be using the L’Occitane Immortelle Creme Precieuse (the night one) which encourages cell renewal and regeneration! Beauty sleep in a jar (or, in my case, a handy little sachet)

Keep a lip balm close-by too,  as your lips might get dehydrated! I’ll be of course carrying my Figs & Rouge one!

About 30 mins before you land, clean up again with a fresh wipe, pat dry, re-apply some moisturizer, sweep a little bronzer all over your face (I’m using the Body Shop Honey Bronzer), add a couple of coats of mascara (I’m SO in love with Le Volume from Chanel) and you’re good to disembark, looking GREAT!!

Careful, you might turn a few (envious) heads!

Fly safe :)

#Make-UpCrush: My “Summer Holidays Capsule Make-up” bag

Only a  few days to go and I shall be jetting off to the South of France for a few weeks! I don’t about you but I look forward to going home, catching up with the family and friends, enjoying lovely food AND go beauty shopping!!

But first up, I need to pack! And with only 23kgs to play with, you gotta be smart about it! I’ve lived abroad for so long now that I have become a ‘master of the suitcase’ thing!

Every thing is meticulously planned from outfits to accessories and of course, beauty products & make-up!

So here is a glimpse inside my make-up bag and what I will be taking away with me to guarantee I look fab & glam without having to leg my whole bathroom!

1. Let’s start with the most important bit: the Make-Up Bag!

This one came highly recommended by one of my favorite blogger, Viviannadoesmakeup! As she puts it, if make-up and Filofax were to have a baby, THIS is what it would look like!

I ordered this Paul & Joe cute little pouch from Selfridges.com for 23 Pounds and 5 days later, it landed on my door step! You gotta love ‘Shop & Ship’!

2. Complexion

As much as I need a break, my skin needs one even more! A break from wearing a lot of make-up, foundation etc… so this Summer, I’m all about THE BB Cream! I have tried a few and just discovered this one from L’Occitane which is just amazing!! It boasts moisturizing agents, gives the complexion a fresh, natural and even look, visibly reduces the look of pores & redness and (bonus) has an SPF 30 built-in.

L'Occitane

As a primer, I’ll be packing my genius POREfessional from Benefit of course! I posted a review not so long ago so check it out here.

Benefit Poreprofessional Image

I’ve also packed my Clarins Instant Light Brush-on Perfector which I’ll use as a concealer and/or highlighter.

My Summer blush will be from Bourjois Paris in Lilas d’Or which is this gorgeous deep pink with gold shimmer.

Bourjois Blush

For Bronzer, I’ve chosen the Body Shop Honey Bronzer, as (again) highly recommended by another favourite blogger of mine, LianaBeauty.

I’ve also packed my Cha Cha Tint and Sun Beam from Benefit just cos they look so pretty and give a beautiful glow to your skin! These will be used for V special occasions!

Perfect canvas. Check.

3. Eyes

Obviously I can’t quite live without my Bassam Fattouh Fork Eyeliner! Find out why here.

Next up, eye pencils! I packed a black one (DiorShow), a brown one (L’Oreal Paris) & a gold one from Sephora.

Mascara-wise, I went with the Outrageous Volume from Sephora which I adore! I also bought my waterproof DiorShow Blackout Mascara for when I’m on the beach or by the pool.

And as for eye shadows, well it had to be my newly purchased Urban Decay Naked 2 palette!! Another bloggers’ favourite and I can totally see why now! All the colours you need to create natural to dramatic smokey eyes! Thumbs up!

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

Last but not least, my amazing MAC Brow Pen!

4. Lips

I don’t wear much lipsticks and generally go for my Figs & Rouge Lip Balm! BUT if I do want to glam up a little I will be reaching for my 2 adorable

Revlon ColourStay Ultimate Suede sticks in  070 – Preview for daytime and 50 – Couture for evenings out!

I managed to squize in a couple of Sephora blending brushing and my Body Shop big fluffy brush for blending in bronzer & applying my blush!

And here is what the whole thing looks like! (please forgive the shabby picture my camera is broken and I only had my blackberry to snap it!)

My ‘Summer Capsule Make-Up’ Collection

Since a few have requested it, I shall blog my ‘Summer Essentials – Beauty Bits & Bobs‘ in the next few days :)

#EventCrush: And the Winner is….

And no, we’re not talking about the Cannes Festival here!

We’re talking about one of the most awaited Awards ceremonies in Dubai where we will be celebrating one of my favorite things on earth. BEAUTY PRODUCTS!

You’ve guessed it right, we’re talking VIVA Beauty Awards 2013!

And oh boy, I CANNOT WAIT to find out who the winners will be in each categories.

I was asked to cast my vote and so here are MY selections:

  • Best Perfume – White Musk, The Body Shop
  • Best Mascara – The Colossal Volum’ Express Maybelline
  • Best Nail Polish – Bourjois So Laque (see my post on these beautiful babies here!)
  • Best Hair Salon – I pulled my joker card for this one as sadly, I’ve never tried any of the 4 nominees
  • Best Anti-Ageing Product – Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale
  • Best Hair Product – Kerastase Elixir Ultime
  • Best Face Moisturiser – Dermalogica (AGESmart) Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF30 (all the way! See my post on Dermalogica products here.)
  • Best Lipstick – Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Venis a Levres
  • Best Body Product – Mama Mio Boob Tube and Neck Fermer

I was also asked to share my very own glam beauty secrets, including the products I tend to splurge on (there’s quite a few I must admit) and the ones I save on.

So, there a few (actually more than just a few) things where I would go for high-end/luxury brands. One of them is perfume. I will never ever buy something that’s not got a renowned French or Italian name on it! I always have 2 or 3 perfumes going at the same time. I wear different ones on different occasions OR, and this is something I have discovered here in the Middle East, I would ‘layer’ them, from the lightest to the strongest fragrance. My current favorites: Chanel Coco Noir, Miss Dior Cherie, The One Dolce & Gabanna. Remember than when it comes to perfumes, the more concentrated the essences & oils, the more expensive the bottle….

Other than that, anything that goes on my skin, be it skin care products or make-up, I also tend to slurge on. As you well know, I am a die-hard Dermalogica fan! Make-up, I wear a lot of Benefit stuff, MAC or Chanel. Oh and eye cream is another one! I use Clinique All About Eyes but will be switching to Creme de la Mer (I look at it as a long-term investment!). I’d like to give a special mention to the best Eyeliner I’ve ever used is the Fork Liner from Bassam Fattouh. See my review here.

So, what do I save on? Well, shower gels, body scrubs & moisturizers where I would definitively choose the drugstore products (Dove shower gels & body lotions are fab!). Shampoos & conditioners too. I use L’Oreal however, would make sure to invest in a good hair mask (currently crushing on Kerastase Masque Elixir Ultime) and styling products (again Kerastase Elixir & Initialist Scalp Serum).

Voting for the VIVA Awards 2013 is now closed but the winners will be revealed on Ahlan!Live website on 23rd May so watch this space!!

I’ll be sure to share the results on my blog.

Until then….
