#FashionCrush: Fashion Forward DXB is back for Season 2!

Fashion Forward Season Two Confirmed for October 15th– 18th

Following Successful Inaugural Season, October’s Event Promises More Fashion, More Designers and an Even Stronger Developmental Programme!

With the catwalks and front rows barely emptied from Season One of the Middle East’s definitive fashion platform, details of Season Two are being confirmed. Fashion Forward will return to Dubai in October from 15th-18th, during the Eid Al Adha celebrations, making it the perfect time for the regional fashion community to come to Dubai and experience the finest in Middle Eastern talent. The second season will bring with it all of the success from the inaugural event, plus some exciting new additions, including the support of Dubai Design District.

Fashion Forward Season Two promises even more designers – in October, the catwalk presentations will span four full days – once more representing the best couture and ready-to-wear pieces that designers in the Middle East have to offer. Fashion Forward’s developmental programme, too, will grow, involving more international industry professionals, not only from the world’s leading academic institutions, but also decision-makers in global e-commerce, trend forecasting, and public relations as well as  wider attendance by stylists and buyers.

More than 12,000 guests enjoyed Fashion Forward Season One; Madinat Jumeirah came alive with catwalk presentations, talks from established designers, academic panel discussions, and plenty to keep the region’s design elite entertained in between – with the fashion gallery, fashion café and, of course, the chance to shop, with the carefully curated selection of accessories at the Pop-Up store. Guests at Fashion Forward Season Two can expect to experience all of these elements and much more.

“Fashion Forward Season One clearly demonstrated the tremendous design talent here in the region, and we were thrilled with the widespread support from all corners of the fashion community,” said Bong Guerrero, Founder and CEO of Fashion Forward. “The participation from leading academic institutions, international industry professionals and the regional and global media means we have been inundated with interest for Season Two and beyond, which is such a positive step and solid benchmark, not only for Fashion Forward, but for the Middle Eastern fashion industry as a whole.”

Season Two will see Fashion Forward’s academic and developmental side expanded, with further focus on mentorship of emerging designers and engaging with wider sectors of the fashion industry.

Fashion Forward’s commitment to fashion and the development of emerging talent has been praised by Dubai Design District (D3), a new creative community dedicated to fostering the growth of the Emirate’s design, luxury and fashion industry.

Fashion and accessories designers as well as members of the academic and retail communities who are interested in participating in Season Two can contact Fashion Forward via www.fashionforward.ae.  As a bi-annual fashion platform, FFWD is establishing itself as one of the region’s definitive movements to foster growth and enrichment for designers, the Middle East’s retail sector and the industry as a whole.

Personally I can’t wait for season 2 of #FFWD! Hope to be able to attend more shows and interview some of the designers this time around so watch this space!

Better start planning my outfits now ;)!

#EventCrush: And the Winner is….

And no, we’re not talking about the Cannes Festival here!

We’re talking about one of the most awaited Awards ceremonies in Dubai where we will be celebrating one of my favorite things on earth. BEAUTY PRODUCTS!

You’ve guessed it right, we’re talking VIVA Beauty Awards 2013!

And oh boy, I CANNOT WAIT to find out who the winners will be in each categories.

I was asked to cast my vote and so here are MY selections:

  • Best Perfume – White Musk, The Body Shop
  • Best Mascara – The Colossal Volum’ Express Maybelline
  • Best Nail Polish – Bourjois So Laque (see my post on these beautiful babies here!)
  • Best Hair Salon – I pulled my joker card for this one as sadly, I’ve never tried any of the 4 nominees
  • Best Anti-Ageing Product – Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale
  • Best Hair Product – Kerastase Elixir Ultime
  • Best Face Moisturiser – Dermalogica (AGESmart) Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF30 (all the way! See my post on Dermalogica products here.)
  • Best Lipstick – Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Venis a Levres
  • Best Body Product – Mama Mio Boob Tube and Neck Fermer

I was also asked to share my very own glam beauty secrets, including the products I tend to splurge on (there’s quite a few I must admit) and the ones I save on.

So, there a few (actually more than just a few) things where I would go for high-end/luxury brands. One of them is perfume. I will never ever buy something that’s not got a renowned French or Italian name on it! I always have 2 or 3 perfumes going at the same time. I wear different ones on different occasions OR, and this is something I have discovered here in the Middle East, I would ‘layer’ them, from the lightest to the strongest fragrance. My current favorites: Chanel Coco Noir, Miss Dior Cherie, The One Dolce & Gabanna. Remember than when it comes to perfumes, the more concentrated the essences & oils, the more expensive the bottle….

Other than that, anything that goes on my skin, be it skin care products or make-up, I also tend to slurge on. As you well know, I am a die-hard Dermalogica fan! Make-up, I wear a lot of Benefit stuff, MAC or Chanel. Oh and eye cream is another one! I use Clinique All About Eyes but will be switching to Creme de la Mer (I look at it as a long-term investment!). I’d like to give a special mention to the best Eyeliner I’ve ever used is the Fork Liner from Bassam Fattouh. See my review here.

So, what do I save on? Well, shower gels, body scrubs & moisturizers where I would definitively choose the drugstore products (Dove shower gels & body lotions are fab!). Shampoos & conditioners too. I use L’Oreal however, would make sure to invest in a good hair mask (currently crushing on Kerastase Masque Elixir Ultime) and styling products (again Kerastase Elixir & Initialist Scalp Serum).

Voting for the VIVA Awards 2013 is now closed but the winners will be revealed on Ahlan!Live website on 23rd May so watch this space!!

I’ll be sure to share the results on my blog.

Until then….

Bassam Fattouh Logo

#Make-UpCrush: The fork liner by Bassam Fattouh

Hey hey!

I don’t know about you BUT since I’ve been in this region, I’ve been noticing how women wear lots and lots of eyeliner to make their eyes look deeper, more mysterious. Sadly, as much as I have tried (and I have tried again and again) I’ve never been able to re-create that sleek, flicked line on my eyes  :(. I’ve assumed I had just had 2 left hands and this just wasn’t for me… so I left it at that.

Then came Bassam Fattouh Cosmetics! Or rather, I attended an event at Debenhams, Mall of the Emirates and spotted Bassam Fattouh’s make-up stand and thought… hum… there is a brand I don’t know!

I spotted this little beauty and asked the Sales Assistant, what it was… she told me this was Bassam’s newest creation: the ‘Fork Liner’! An eye line with a little fork-looking brush, which is supposedly easier to use.

A little perplex, I decided to give it one last shot and bought myself one (AED110). I decided to try it that same evening and OMG! Another revelation (can’t remember which one was the last one…) It was so easy to use!! For the first time in my life, I managed to apply eyeliner and it looked great! And on both eyes!

So this beauty is now my number one #EyelinerCrush!!
