#SkinCareCrush: The Summer Edit – Cleansers

As promised I am back with an updated Skin Care Routine post and I am super excited because this is the very routine with has helped me get rid of my hormonal breakouts and one that is here to stay (well for a while at least!).

And it’s not as ‘fancy’ as you may thing. It’s actually pretty basic, with a new discovery, and old buddy and a staple. Oh and a new toy!

If you remember I mentioned I was experiencing some breakouts (hormonal ones – the most annoying kind!), especially on my right cheek & chin area, and I therefore decided to literally stop all of the products I was using and go back to a more basic routine, using products I knew weren’t going to make things worse.

A cleanser that always kind of did the trick for me is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel. I mean, you just cannot go wrong with this one, especially if you have oily/acne prone skin that’s also sensitive. I started by using this twice a day. A few weeks later I felt my skin was ready to try something different. I contemplated my Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse Oil, which I love, but before I reached for the bottle, I spotted my Emma Hardie Amazing Face Moringa Cleansing Balm which I’d kind of forgotten about and thought ‘Why not?!’. I started using it as my 1st cleanser, every evening, massaging it into my skin then adding some water and just rinsing it off with warm water… (sorry I can’t be bothered with the whole hot cloth thing!). I follow it up with my 2nd cleanser (the La Roche-Posay one) and voila! Super squeaky clean skin!).

In the morning, I started using the Diptyque Radiance Boosting Powder which, as mentioned in my recent review (here) is so gentle yet cleanse your skin perfectly. You just pour a little of the powder in your hand, run the little sponge under water and work the powder into a creamy foam which you then use as a regular cleanser.

But there’s a twist! I recently attended an event where I was given a chance to try out the new Foreo Luna Mini. Well I now use it every single morning to work my cleaner deeply into my skin and it has made such a huge difference it’s unreal! I’ll do a separate review of it soon – don’t worry!

So there you have it, my new & improved skin cleansing routine! I do have to mention that I have been taking Evening Primerose Oil twice a day for a month now and I am convinced this has also helped clear out my skin A LOT! I owe a HUGE massive thank you to my mate Bonnie from Bonnie-Garner.com who recommended that I try! MERCI BEAUCOUP!!

I will be back with the toners & moisturisers in the next few days….

#ProductCrushes: Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Cleansers Review

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve started using the Neutrogena new Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Cleansers and I am pleased to report that they are BOTH excellent products!

I have actually been using both at the same time. One for my morning skincare routine and the other one in the evening.

I’ve been experiencing quite a few breakouts in the last couple of months. Not major ones, just little micro-cysts & small pimples which have been driving me nuts. I was therefore looking to take my skincare regimen back to basics and those 2 cleansers have helped me just do that.

Read on for my take on those 2 newly adopted facial soaps!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Wash

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Wash: a freshly scented gel-like texture which applies really well (1 pump is enough for the whole face) and dissolves gunk/impurities acquired overnight, leaving the skin re-energised (it’s quite citrus-y!) and feeling clean. No drying effect. A very simple yet great cleansing gel, easy to adopt and fit into a routine.

For my particular skin type and to rid it of any blemishes, I will eventually go back to my original Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser which I find just works that much better for me. But if I do manage to clear up my skin I will certainly use this one again!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Scrub

Neutrogena Pore & Shine Daily Scrub – I’ve used this one in the evening to give my skin a good scrub and eliminate any traces of that day’s make-up & gunk.

Again, a lovely citrus-y scent and a very soft texture. The exfoliating beads aren’t too harsh so won’t leave your skin looking red & bothered…. An OK product I guess. I have however been using another cleanser/make-up remover and made sure I’ve double-cleansed my skin as I find it doesn’t quite work through ALL of my make-up if I’ve been wearing heavy foundation for example. I therefore apply some of my Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse oil to break it all down, rinse it off THEN use the Daily Scrub to clean my skin a second time.

I do however find it leaves it all soft. No sign of any dryness. I was at one point a bit concerned it might be a bit too much to use it everyday but so far my skin has reacted pretty well to it so I shall keep on using that one :)!

Have you guys used any of these products? What do you think?!

#BeautyCrush: Here’s the BEST skin care brand EVER!

Now let’s talk about beauty & skin care a little!

Another one of my (many) beauty crushes is skin care brand Dermalogica, which I’ve now been using for almost 6 years!

Rewind back to my early 20’s: all remember our 20’s? Shiny, spotty skin, bad (terrible) make-up (what were we thinking??), no money for facials or branded products? Remember now? Well, we’ve ALL been there! I still remember using Vitamine E cream from Superdrug!! Like who does that?!

And then one day, I decided to treat myself to a deep-cleaning facial! And so I go to my local beauty salon in East London and this is where I discovered Dermalogica! I remember thinking that the products smelled very ‘natural’, it didn’t irritate my skin at all and I left with a glow in my step, and a trial-size pack of Dermalogica goodies in my bag!

I’ve never looked back and have used this stuff ever since! The products are a little expensive although still reasonable compare to other brands, but most importantly they will last you for months.

Here is what my daytime skin care routine looks like:

SKincareRoutine

Step 1: Cleanse your face with Special Cleansing Gel, suitable for ALL skin types (AED150)

Now this one I absolutely ADORE! Melts away all of your make-up, even waterproof mascara, gets rid of all that yuk to leave a perfect, cleaned canvas. Another one which is great is the Bioderma Sebium Foaming gel 200 (see).

Step 2: Spritz on the Multi-Active Toner (AED150)

I’ve tried many many different toners including the Clinique n2 and this one has to be the best. It doesn’t irritate the skin, lasts for EVER and really hydrate the skin allowing the follow up products to really penetrate.

Step 3: Smooth on Hydrating Booster (AED280)

You don’t have to use a ‘booster’ or ‘serum’. My skin gets very dehydrated and as a results tends to break out. THIS is the only thing that has given me results! Just spread a thin layer over your skin, followed by your moisturizer.

Step 4: Apply Active Moist all over (AED230)

I looooove that moisturizer. Massive CRUSH on this one. Non-greasy but still rich enough to properly moisturize the skin. Feels gorgeous on and really prepare your skin for make-up. Only downside is that it doesn’t not have an SPF so I would usually make sure my BB creams or foundation has one. We will talk about SPF in another post.

So there you have it, the Glam Crush Girl‘s everyday skin care routine! I hear you asking ‘But what about eye cream??’! Well, I can’t give up all my glam secrets at once now can I? 😉

What are your favorite products!! Want me to review a particular one for you?

Now spread the glamour!
