#MakeUpCrush: It’s all about that base!

As you will have guessed from this post’s title, today we’re talking ‘bases’! A subject I’ve never blogged about actually…. I do love make up and wear quite a bit (most days) BUT up until recently, I never really found MY perfect base + foundation combo! Yep, took me a while and a lot of trial & errors but I finally got not one, but two combos I really really enjoy wearing! One for a more daytime/light coverage look and another for evening/medium coverage one.

Let me remind you a little bit about my skin. I do have a pretty even tone although I have a few little acne scars so don’t really go for anything that’s heavy as I can get away with light to medium coverage. My skin is also on the combinations/oily side and can get a little dehydrated when I’m tired or stressed out.

With that in mind, I look for something that’s kind of matte but not too matte and a base that’ll keep my T-zone from going all disco ball shine by mid-day. And I did!

I absolutely love love love the new Sephora Pore & Fine Line Filler as a base! It does blur all of my larger pores (around the nose & cheeks areas) and fill up those little dehydration lines I have on my forehead… I don’t really have any other lines or wrinkles so this one’s perfect.

It also adds a bit of a mattifying effect and allows for my beloved DiorSkin Nude BB Cream to glide on and seat perfectly for a whole day! I use the shade ‘medium’.

I usually apply my BB cream with the Inglot Pro Blending Sponge (here) which is fab!

Evening Look

On those occasions when I need a little more coverage or I’m attending/hosting an event and need to look my best, I reach for the amazing Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet which I discovered this year and have loved ever since! I use shade 40-beige. The application is so so easy with a blender or a buffing brush and it lasts and lasts and lasts, especially when applied over a thin layer of this amazing oil-free primer: Smashbox Photo Finish. I got a sample of it when I last visited Sephora in France and I’m so glad I did cos it’s dope!! Keeps ‘the’ T-zone shine free for hours and creates a smooth canvas… the perfect pair!

So there you have it! What are your perfect primer + foundation/BB combos?! Let me know!

#Make-UpCrush: ‘Dubai Summer Heat’-Proof your make-up!

Hey Glam Gals!

The Desert-Kissed look has taken over catwalks worldwide; even strutting its way onto runways in the Arab countries which have up until now have preferred the paler looks. The concept is a woman who has walked through the desert for days and been subjected to sun and heat with little food or water. We see strong contouring to bring out the cheekbones, giving a gaunt impression, along with dewy to shiny finishes on bronzed skin.

In the mainstream, this makeup look is natural and lightweight; appropriate for the beach, out about town, and of course – rendezvousing in the desert itself! Not only is it a huge global trend this season, it’s also easy to apply!

Healthy skin is very important with this look so eat healthily, exercise well and take care of your skin with a good skin care routine!

THE BASE

To get started with this look, smooth a tinted moisturizer with SPF 15+ over both face and neck. BB Cream is also a brilliant option; basically, you want a very lightweight feel to the base but with a dewy finish – not matte!

Blemishes can always be touched up with a bit of concealer if you’re after more coverage, and if you don’t own a tinted moisturiser, try mixing a dab of foundation with your regular moisturizer.

MAC BB Creams

THE GLOW

The catwalk trends are chiseled and gaunt but you can smooth out the contouring for everyday wear, so carefully apply a darker shade of tinted moisturiser or foundation along the base of your cheekbones, and blend it up onto your cheeks. If you want to look more bronzed, you can also blend that same shade into the areas of your face you would naturally tan. Start off light and build up the colour gradually.

The key is to keep the skin glowing so I recommend using a couple of drops of my products of the moment: Benefit’s High Beam, Moon Beam or Sun Beam to highlight brow bones, cheekbones, and slide down the centre of your nose.

 Benefit Highlighters

THE EYES

If you’re planning to take a dip in the water, go for cream eye shadows as they are waterproof. Work quickly when using them as they tend to dry fast. Make Up For Ever offers a great “Aqua” waterproof makeup range.

Curl your eyelashes and apply waterproof mascara. Although, if you’re a sun & sand girl, I’d recommend getting your eyelashes tinted in a salon so you can skip on the mascara altogether!

THE BROWS

Define your eyebrows with your choice product. I recommend a MAC eyebrow pencil or Benefit’s BrowZings. Structured eyebrows make such a difference to your appearance and furthermore, this season brows are strong and defined!

Brow Kit

THE LIPS

Well hydrated lips are a must! Exfoliate them with a toothbrush and apply a lip stain such as Benefit’s BeneTint (use sparingly). Rub a rich lip balm with SPF over that and you’re all set. Sheer lipsticks are also an option but keep it natural.

BeneTint

THE BODY

Finish your look with a lovely body moisturizer  you might like to go for a tinted body moisturizer that will match your face. You can also apply Benefit’s highlighter to the tops of your collar bones to make them stand out.

I hope you found this useful; feel free to send in your feedback and requests for tips, tutorials and reviews of anything makeup and skincare related!

#BeautyCrush: Dream BB Creams

The question here isn’t “Have you heard of BB Creams?” but rather “Why aren’t you using them yet??”!!

BB Creams have now been around for a while, yet, some of my Glam Friends aren’t using them? OMG! You NEED to OK? They are the next best thing after hair straighteners & the Ipad!

BB Creams moisturize the skin, even out skin tone, fight wrinkles, imperfections & dullness, they even have an SPF! ALL in 1 single (albeit pretty) tube! They simply ROCK!

Not sure which one to buy or use? Well here is a review of my 3 absolute favorites! (There are thousands out there and I haven’t obviously tried them all BUT if you want more info on BB Creams check out this article from ‘Dailymakeover.com‘ and this review fromhudabeauty.com’)

Garnier

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector

This is actually the first one I ever bought and used it for a few weeks. The texture is fab and smooth on very easily. The shade (medium) is a good match to my natural skin tone and evens out the skin very well. It is however a little too ‘greasy’ for my liking but if your skin is normal to dry, this one is perfect for you!  This one also contains an SPF15.

Loreal nude magicL’Oreal Bare Skin Beautifier

I got this one a year ago at the Doha Airport Duty Free as it hadn’t launched over here in the UAE yet. I liked it immediately  The texture is a little different here… it feels a little ‘rough’ and the ‘grey-ish’ colour is can be off-putting at first BUT when applied, it transforms to match your skin colour, evens out your skin tone and give it a matte finish which I loved! It has an SPF12 which is a little light for the Middle Eastern sun so I would usually wear sunblock on top of it (Min. SPF20). Best for oily skins.

Dior Dior Hydra Life BB Cream

And there is my STAR BB Cream! This one is AMAZING! Albeit it is a little more expensive (AED290) BUT it is worth every single dirhams, trust me!

The texture offers more of a ‘full coverage’ than the others. It feels definitely more ‘luxurious’ and just blends perfectly. I am using the medium shade which works well with my skin tone! The best thing is, this BB cream has an SPF30!

A lot of the beauty bloggers have favored this one :)

Now, I can’t wait to try the new CC Creams!!! Will do a post/review of those soon I promise.
