#FashionCrush: New Look A/W13 Collection preview

One of my favorite brands in the WHOLE world has released its new collection and I got the privilege to check it out before it hit the shops!

This season at New Look we’re going Russian doll-esque, new model army, grunge & 70’s glam!!

Here is the low down:

Baboushka

Rich colours, sumptuous fabrics and decadent prints give our Baboushka collection folkish flair and rustic Russian charm.

Faux-fur coats are worn over delicate, embroidered blouses and teamed with washed ripped denim and a colour-block beanie for a snug and stylish look. Shearling lined bikers sit next to floral pussy-bow blouses, whilst heavily patterned knits are perfect with a peplum jacquard skirt.

Burgundy, teal and navy are key tones of this cosy, wintry collection. Prints and textures are layered up with accessories to create an opulent look that is rich in autumnal colours, luxurious textures and statement jewels.

Baboushka focuses on sumptuous knitwear, intricate embroidery and statement outerwear that is effortlessly stylish and loaded with luxe.

New Model Army

Sharp lines, structured shapes and classic cuts work effortlessly together to give new model army its unique simplicity.

Fabrics are luxe, silhouettes are clean and colours are powerful and bold. Delicate sheer sleeves with a hint of shimmer add a feminine twist, whilst faux-leather panelling on coats and jackets give an alternative hard edge. Quilting adds a sports luxe touch to the collection alongside graphic tees, giving new model army’s fashion recruits casual, off duty style with a premium edge.

Monochrome is key and provides a neutral base that works to make the accent colours – scarlet and cobalt – hyper pop. Prints are statement with daring leopard and graphic checks used to transform must-have staple pieces. New Model Army is essentially a collection of wardrobe VIPs reworked with indulgent textures, luxe fabrics and injected with a burst of colour or print. The concept is simple, the outcome is anything but.

Grunge

A mash-up of hard-edged embellishment, bold print and tough texture gives Grunge a cool, carefree confidence. Leather pencil skirts, fishnet tights and distressed biker jackets give a harsh twist to feminine ditsy print dresses and oversized check shirts. Fur trimmed canvas parkas, textured cardigans and graphic print tees keep things casual and effortlessly edgy.

The colour palette is muted, lifted by florals and checks that are thrown into the mix. Studs, chains and spikes are key details that toughen up an outfit whilst a knitted beanie hat is perfect for pulling the look together.

This collection contrasts tough and rough with pretty, ultra-feminine highlights to capture the true spirit of 90s Grunge.

Going Out

Going out is fun, fabulous and flash.

Think sequins, glitter and lots of bling – this collection is all about unveiling the inner diva. Trophy jackets transform a simple tee and disco pants automatically scream glam. Jewel colours sit alongside shimmering metallics whilst intricate beading and all-over sparkle create that ‘wow’ factor.

Classic blazers are paired with hero pieces, such as the embellished mini-skirt or bejewelled sleeveless blouse to give a crisp, sophisticated finish and a sculpted silhouette. More is more with Going Out which means accessories play a key role in completing any outfit. Statement necklaces, chandelier earrings and textured clutches are all perfect for adding a generous dose of shine.

70s glam is the essence of Going Out. It’s loud, it’s bold and it’s guaranteed to turn heads!

Accessories

Boots are a big message for the season; from grungy bikerboots to cleaner knee-highs. Shiny detailing is key – metal heels, metal plating and toe and heel tips add a hard-edge to an all-together more grown-up collection.

Cut-out detail is a must-have transitional trend, evolving into multi-strapped sky high heels for the party season. Masculine detailing is still evident with loafers and brogues appearing on influential catwalks. Colours are striking, with fiery red, cobalt blue and flashes of textured metallics or rich jewel tones.

Jewellery makes a bold impact – we’ve gone more statement, more opulent and even more lavish. Necklaces have moved higher on the neck and are adorned with decadent gems and jewels whilst cuffs are a new direction for bangles with spikes and perspex adding a fresh feel.

The bowling bag is the shape of the season and is brought to life with colour-block panelling and metal features. Sporty silhouettes continue, with backpacks remaining crucial. Biker quilting, zip-edge details and grunge florals add a new dimension.

Clutches are on a larger scale, transformed with snake and croc textures, chains and metal plates.

#JewelryCrush: Just Rich Collection by Just Cavalli, exclusive at Paris Gallery

I am usually not a jewelry fan and much rather make do with my usual knick-knacks from New Look or Accessorize BUT I’ve recently been thinking of investing in a couple of ‘proper grow-up’ jewelry pieces and was delighted to receive this news release from Paris Gallery!

I never even knew Just Cavalli had a jewelry range, that’s how clueless I am about all things sparkling and expensive!

Roberto Cavalli created the Just Cavalli line in 2001. Drawing on his eclectic and imaginative style, the designer created a collection with a strong personality, making constant use of innovative materials and experimental graphics: the traditional heritage of the Cavalli Maison.

Apparently, the Just Cavalli ‘Just Rich’ Collection targets women who relate to a free and contemporary style that carries out experiments and continual research… hmmm… not quite sure that me there!

Never the less, there are some really nice pieces and so I will be sure to check them out next time I walk in to Paris Gallery!

All of their necklaces, bracelets, pendants, earrings and rings  are made in silver and yellow gold & their prices tags are fairly reasonable…

What do you think?

#AccessoriesCrush: My top 10 make-up brushes

Before I begin, let me re-iterate the fact that I am NO professional make-up artist or anything! I just LOVE make-up and have managed to master a few key looks by researching my favorite blogs and watching tons & tons of Youtube tutorials!

The one thing they all have in common? Brushes. All of them recommend different ones from professional sets to drugstore cheaper options and after speaking to a few make-up artists I recently met, I’ve built myself a little ‘tool kit‘!

Here are my top 10 make-up brushes which I have used and trusted everyday for the past few months!

Eye Make-Up Brushes

DSC00437

1. MAC Brow Brush (FREE sample) – I got given this little eyebrow brush when I purchased a MAC Eyebrow pen! I use it to blend the colour into my brows for a very natural look

2. Sephora Pro Blending Brush (27) – I know ALL of the bloggers rave about the MAC 217 BUT these brushes are a little too pricey for my liking and since I am not that good of a make-up applier (does that make sense?) I opted for a cheaper yet good option. This one by the Sephora Pro range is great to apply and blend eye shadows!  I do however keep it for special occasion or when attempting to create a ‘smokey eye’ look.

3. Sephora All over Shadow Small Brush (23) – This little brush I use to apply a light shadow in the inner corner of my eyes to give it a brighter look. The small size of the brush makes it very easy to use

4. Sephora Pro Crease Brush (10)  ($20) –  This one was kind of a treat! I noticed a lot of the bloggers used a crease brush to create their smokey eye look and even though I don’t do that everyday I thought I’d treat myself to a special crease brush. Well, now that I’ve used it a few times, I must admit it does help a LOT! It somehow applies the shadow in the right spot and just make blending the pigments into the crease a lot easier so very very pleased with myself here!

5. Sephora All Over Shadow Brush (22) – I do have a few of these in case I’m using different colours.  They are just perfect to apply your everyday eye shadow all over the eye lid.

6. Sephora Smudge Brush (14) – Again, this is another one that was strongly recommended by the expert make-up bloggers & artists! When you line your eye pen over your lash line, you simply run the brush over and it smudges the colour for a more natural blended effect. I use this one most days actually and really like it.

Face Make-Up Brushes

DSC00436

1. The Body Shop Face & Body Brush – This one I recently got from The Body Shop when I bought a Bronzer there. I really like it actually, it just deposits your bronzer or face powder very lightly on the skin, allows you to build up the colour and is just super soft!

2. Sephora Pro Stippling Brush (44) – Look at me with all my Pro brushes?! Hehe! I picked up this one when I bought my eye shadow and crease brushes from Sephora. I kept on seeing a couple of my favourite bloggers using a Stippling brush to apply their foundations or BB creams and thought I’d do the same. Not saying I don’t like it BUT somehow I still find it easier to apply these with my fingers… I must give it another go this week and really learn how to use that one properly because it is said to give you a much lighter, even & natural coverage so….!

3. Yves Rocher Blusher Brush – I think this may have been one of the very first brush I bought! I’ve had it for years and got it from my local Yves Rocher store in France. They have these everywhere though so you can get yours from Sephora or any other make-up stores. The angled brush makes it easy to apply your blush and/or bronzer to contour your face.

Tip: Don’t forget to clean your brushes on a weekly basis to avoid bacteria build-up! You can either use a proper brush cleaning product (MAC and Sephora offer very good ones) or, like me, use water and a little hand-wash soap. Pat dry with a tissue, re-shape and leave them to dry out properly overnight.
