#BeautyCrush: The toner trio

Before I started beauty blogging, I used to use a toner as part of my skincare regimen. I would use the same one (the Clinique n2) over and over again not really convinced it actually was doing anything ,but because the beauty powers that be would recommend that I do!

It is only when I started beauty blogging that I had to look into the whole ‘toning craze’ thing properly. After reading a lot (A LOT!) of articles, blogs, research papers etc… I can now safely say: “You MUST tone your skin!” Every single day, twice a day! It really does make a huge difference. If you’re not seeing any changes then you’re using the wrong toner. Simple as that.

Ah yes, I should perhaps make a point here. Not all toners are equal. Different skin types/concerns call for different toners. As far as my skin is concerned, I have finally managed to put together the perfect combo and it includes 3 products (yes 3!).

Let me tell you about these and how I use them.

Before I start, you’ve got to know a bit more about my skin type: I have combination/oily skin, I also suffer from dehydration, sensitivities on my cheeks and forehead (don’t ask!) AND do tend to get quite a few black heads (damn hormones!). Gosh I do have issues don’t I?! :)

In the morning, once I’ve cleansed my skin, I spray the Dermalogica Age Smart Antioxidant Mist which protects my skin from dehydration and natural elements. I love that it is a spray and thus super easy to apply. A bit pricey (AED150 in Boots) but the bottle usually lasts a few months.

In the evening, I apply the Pixi Glow Tonic over my skin with a cotton pad. The Glow Tonic is an exfoliating toner and gets rid of all of the dead cells and any leftover gunk from that day! (nice I know!). I then spray a little bit of my La Roche-Posay Serozinc. Now this one is key for me as it calms my skin right down AND clarifies it.

So there you have it. My toners super combo!

Which ones are you guys using?! Let me know!

Hair Care post

#HairCrushes: Summer Hair Care Routine

As promised, here is an updated hair care routine! The last I posted was about a year ago so this one is long overdue. Needless to say I’ve been trying out LOTS of products and I think I now have found the best product combo… well at least the best one for my hair. Let me also tell you that my hair is very long (below the waist), fairly straight, coloured (inc an ombre on the ends) and do have a tendency to dry out on the lengths.

Also, I only wash my hair every 3 or 4 days, unless I’ve been running or sweating (sorry I know it sounds a bit gross)…. if I wash them too often they dry out even more and my scalpt gets super sensitive. If I find that on the 3rd day the roots get a little greasy, I just refresh them with dry shampoo. My favourite one at the moment is the Davines Hair Refresher.

So, what do I use to keep my tresses in check? Read on to find out!

Davines Nounou Nourishing & Illuminating Shampoo & Cream

The ‘Nounou‘ range is perfect for coloured or treated hair! It just deeply nourishes your hair, repairing any damaged tresses. This is sodium chloride free which means it won’t strip the colour out of your hair! Fab.

The Shampoo’s formula is really nice. A little dollop of product goes a long way (with my hair, I go through a bottle of shampoo every fortnight but I’ve had this one for over a month now!).

The cream mask is so rich and creamy and just leaves my hair so soft… I apply it in the shower, leave it on for 10 mins and rinse it off. You can also leave it on for a couple of hours for more of a deep conditioning treatment.

Boots Expert Anti-dandruff Shampoo – I don’t really know if it is the water, the heat or whatever, but I sometimes get a bit of a itchy scalp and can go through phases where I have dandruff which I absolutely hate! SO, every 2nd or 3rd shampoo I use this little gem! The bottle doesn’t look like much and it is super cheap (GBP3!) but man, it does work! Leaves my scalp feeling refreshed and super clean! Love it!

Natures Organics / Organic Care Dry Nourish Conditioner – This is one of my all time favourite conditioners! And one that you can buy for very cheap in your local supermarket. I got this a couple of years ago when I first tried out the infamous Keratin treatment. It was then recommended to use a shampoo & conditionner that did not contain any paraben or sulfates… after using up the super expensive one from the salon I hunted this (much) cheaper version down and loved it instantly! I didn’t like the shampoo so much as I felt it left my hair very tangled and dry but the conditionner has remained part of my hair care routine ever since. Love also the fact that it contains coconut oil and thus smells good enough to eat!!

Davines OI All in On Milk –  this rich and nourishing spray on milk is quite the genius do it all product! When spray on towel dried hair and before styling it adds shine, softness, helps with detangling my long locks, controls any frizz, has a conditioning effect, cuts out my blow-dry time by half and protects my hair from the heat! And it smells really good too! WHAT?!

PhytoPlage Protective Sun Veil – living in the Middle East you have got to be mindful of the sun and the heat and the fact that we’re close to a beach at any given time and so likely to visit it all year (well almost!). It therefore goes without saying that UV rays, salt, heat etc… would take a toll on your locks and so you have got to make sure they are protected at all times! The best product I’ve tried to day has to be the PhytoPlage Protective Sun Veil. The texture is super light and non-greasy, it smells of holidays and of course, it contains a UV filter. Can be use on or off the beach! I spray mine on every day!

L’Oreal Elnett Satin Lumiere Hairspray – Hair styling wise, I do keep it very simple! A little hair spray to keep little flyways. I’ve been loyal to Elnett for years….

And then finally, if I am feeling SUPER glam, I’ll spray a little of my favourite Hair Perfume (yes you heard!) – the Herra Hair Protect. Read the full review here.

My little secret to easily detangle my hair in the shower?! Meet my cute ‘Shampoo Brush‘! I got it from Daiso for like AED7 and it’s genius! Makes the whole process so much easier… a must-have if you ask me!

Alright that’s it I guess! Hope you’ve enjoyed this post. Don’t hesitate to send me any suggestions as to which products I should try out next!

#ProductCrush: Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser Review

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the Sunday Riley famous cleanser? It is both a ‘cult’ product AND a beauty bloggers’ favourite. So of course I could not help myself but get a bottle of it and try it out!

The Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleaner is a gel-based, foaming clay cleanser rich in Vitamin C and essential oils. It is meant to detoxify, create flawless skin and minimise the pores.  Perfect for normal to combination skin apparently. It also claims to help you achieve that ‘ceramic-smooth’ skin… Sounds good to me!

So what’s in the actual bottle?

Refined French Green Clay: Tightens pores, removes impurities and infuses skin with vital minerals.
Vitamin C: Helps reduce the appearance of large pores, wrinkles and discoloration while stimulating collagen growth.
Black Pepper: Stimulates circulation for naturally warming cellular revitalization.

Now, I’ve used the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleaner for over 2 months, as my morning cleanser.  Can’t really say my skin has become ceramic-smooth (shame!) BUT I can say that this is a really good cleanser. Once you get over the scent which isn’t the most pleasant, it leaves the skin feeling thoroughly cleansed without the drying effect some other cleansers can have.

It does feel quite luxurious (well it has a GBP35 price tag so it better!)… a little bit of product goes quite a long way so it’ll last you for a while.

I don’t think it is tough enough to be used as an evening/make-up removing/deep cleaning cleanser, hence why I kept it for mornings but as a ‘wake my skin gently’ product it has done the job.

Is it as fantastic as some of the bloggers have said in their reviews? To me it just isn’t. I’ve had similar results/feel with much cheaper drugstore cleaners (my beloved Neutrogena Deep Cleansing Gel for example).

Will I repurchase? I don’t think so.

If you’d like to try it out for yourself, you can order it from SpaceNK‘s website at GBP35 – click here.

And if you do try it, please share your review!

The Week #23

#InstaCrushes: The Week #23

Happy Sunday!

Well, as happy as a Sunday can be :)! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend. Where has it gone by the way?! I had a great week last week and a really relaxing weekend, hence the lack of blogging. I have not opened the laptop until this morning, which felt great! Should do this more often…

Anyways, here’s a look back at the week that was:

1. A little #FOTD snap from when I attended the Pond’s Arabia ‘Celebrate Women’ event last week. Kept it fairly simple and fool-proof. All stayed impeccable throughout the evening thanks to the Benefits Stay Flawless 15h Primer stick which, I only started using recently. Turns out it’s a new favourite!! I also really like my Pond’s BB+ Cream… the texture is so light and fresh! A great drugstore product!

2. Had a bit of a girlie catch up with a very dear friend on Friday at the newly opened Waldorf Astoria on the Palm. That place is just amazing and the view of the Atlantis and the Palm was well… Instagram-worthy. Obviously!! Can’t wait to return and check out their Asian restaurant….

3.  I’ll be posting a review of the infamous Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Cleanser shortly so won’t say anymore… you just gotta check out the blog later on tonight 😉

4. I’ll also be updating y’all on my Summer Hair Care Routine… I’m currently using AND loving the Davines’ Nounou ‘Nourishing & Illuminating’ Shampoo and Cream and my beauty find of the year award has to go to this little shampoo brush I picked up in Daiso for AED7 which just makes it so much easier to detangle my hair in the shower! Amazeballs.

5. Well, can you spot a pattern this week!! Another product that’s just landed on my desk and which I’ll be testing in the next couple of weeks! This Dr Dennis Gross Clarifying Colloidal Sulfur Mask sounds just like what I needed to refine the texture of my skin which has been a bit cray cray recently… fingers crossed!

6. Last but not least, a little #OOTD pic from the Pond’s Arabia event wearing my beloved Promod top, New Look maxi skirt and bag and my Marks & Spencers heels (which you can’t actually see the skirt is so long!)

I’m looking forward to the next few weeks actually! They’re going to be crazy ones but in a good way with a couple of exciting work events but also some cool blog posts! I’ll event try to film another YouTube video.

Don’t forget to check me out on Instagram AND Twitter to keep in touch alright?!

Have a fabulous week :)

Happy Blog Anniversary!!

I am SO SO happy to be posting this today! My blog just turned 1 year old! I cannot believe it!

I can still remember having a coffee with a very dear friend (Cathleen that’s you babe!) telling her all about this crazy idea I’d just had to start a blog and brainstorming names… fast forward a year later, here we are!

Well what a journey this has been! An exciting one actually where I have learned a lot about a lot of things (if that makes sense). I certainly have learned a lot about skincare, make-up, fashion, the business of blogging, photography etc.. etc.. but I’ve also learned a lot about myself and I think that is the most important part of this journey!

I’ve learned that it is so important to pursue your ideas, even the craziest because when you do something you love, whether it requires a lot of time/works/money it is always worth it in the end.

My blog started purely as a hobby, a way to escape from the day-to-day work worries and it turned into a passion! I went for 3 friends reading my posts to now a few hundreds. I know this doesn’t quite equal to the thousands of followers some of the more advanced bloggers pull every month but it’s a start and it is all thanks to YOU!

Yes, YOU who read my posts, comments on them, follow me on my social media platforms etc… thanks to you who keep me going, who make me wanna to publish better content.

I am so so grateful to you guys. I hope y’all be carrying on this journey with me and support me in taking The Glam Crush Chronicle even further!

All my love :) xxx
