The Week #24

#InstaCrushes: The Week #24

I know, I’m a week behind on my #InstaCrushes. Life happens hey!

I’m here now so let’s catch up on what I have been up to lately! And in case you’re not following me on Instagram cos if you are you would have already seen these!

1 .The main event, week before last,  was of course the much awaited Viva Beauty Awards!! I was invited to the ‘bloggers’ table and had an absolute blast with the girls! Giggling like cray cray in-between 2 tweets, winning the night’s ‘Who wants to be a beauty expert’ game and just catching up with all of my  beauty friends!!

2. I got a new toy!! Well, I got ‘lent’ a new toy. This is the new Canon Legria Mini X which I’m trying out in the next couple of weeks. It is meant to be the perfect vlogger/blogger/journo ‘s accessory and let’s you record super high quality footage when you’re out & about! I’m actually going to be vlogging my trip to Qatar so be sure to check out my YouTube Channel later on this week.

3. Been keeping it simply make-up wise lately. Only because the weather is starting to get really hot and steamy plus we’re nearing Ramadan so gotta easy into the ‘bare face’ look nicely ;). I’ve been loving my Benefit They’re Real Mascara and my Nars ‘Coeur Battant’ blush. The colour is quite bold but if you apply a tiny tiny bit with a big fluffy blush brush it gives the most gorgeous flushed look ever! For eyes, again, simple! Eye crayons are perfect! This one from Barry M was a total bargain and stays put all day long.

4. What did I wear for the Viva Beauty Awards?! I almost forgot! Well, I kind of recycled my River Island dress which I love and paired it with my lime green San Marina heels, Reiss clutch and a Primark faux pearl necklace. Arm swag by Bimbo & Lola and C. Wonder. I love the contrast between the pink of the dress and the colour of the shoes… you just gotta experiment a little!

5. Here’s a peek at the prize we won on the night! Each table competed against each other answering a series of beauty-related questions and table 14 won!! Of course! A table of 10 beautistas! The prize included a special edition GlamBox, a Philips hair straighteners, some Nike work out gear etc… fab!

6. Talking of GlamBox, I’ve posted a review of the May one if you’ve not checked it yet, click here!

Benefit GlamBox May 2014 Final

#BeautyCrush: May GlamBox Review

Considering today is the 29th of May, I’m cutting it just fine with my May GlamBox Review!! A lot has been going on in the Dubai fashion & beauty scene over the past few weeks so have got a lot of posts to catch up on.

But the long awaited May Benefit Exclusive GlamBox dropped a couple of weeks ago and (again) it was a big hit! Some products we all know, some new releases… read on for more deets!

1. Benefit ‘They’re Real’ Mascara – One of my favourite mascaras of all time. This travel-friendly version is just perfect to take away on holidays or carry in your handbag! Makes your lashes longer, doesn’t clump at all… amazing stuff.

2. Benefit ‘They’re Real’ Push Up Liner – So that was the famous ‘mystery’ product!! One that Benefit just recently launched and we were all very lucky to have it included in this month’s box!

Now, I actually can’t quite give you my take on this new eye liner. The truth is I am absolutely rubbish at applying liner and although this one is meant to make it a whole lot easier, I haven’t quite mastered the process yet which is mainly down to me having 2 left hands as opposed to the product itself. So, let me have another try over the weekend before I state what I think of it!

3. Benefit ‘ Fake Up’ – I’ve been using Fake Up for a while now so this one wasn’t a discovery. I do like the concealer’s creamy texture and super convenient packaging. One that I use to cover any skin blemishes or very dark circles under my eyes. The coverage is fairly good and the colour medium a good match to my skin

4. Benefit Big Easy – Now this one was a fantastic discovery! Actually, more like a revelation!! Think of your favourite BB Cream… well this one is better! Perfect for oily skins it offers a smooth, cream to powder finish, gives good coverage and comes in 6 different shades. That’s my ‘Summer base’ sorted.

5. Benefit The POREFessional – Again, another one I’ve had in my make-up stash for a very long time and one that I love love love! As far as primers go, this one does a great job of smoothing out pores, imperfections & fine lines. The texture is a bit ‘silicon-y’ but my make-up does stay put (and shine-free) for longer when I wear it so…

6. Benefit Brow Bar Tint Voucher – I’ve not used the voucher yet but will be sure to report back when I do!

If you’re not subscribed to receive your monthly box of beauty goodies, check out their website or Facebook page as they currently have an offer whereby you sign up for 3, 6 or 12 months and get an additional month for free! Use the code GLAMBIRD at checkout!

Can’t wait for the June box 😉

#ProductCrushes: Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Cleansers Review

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve started using the Neutrogena new Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Cleansers and I am pleased to report that they are BOTH excellent products!

I have actually been using both at the same time. One for my morning skincare routine and the other one in the evening.

I’ve been experiencing quite a few breakouts in the last couple of months. Not major ones, just little micro-cysts & small pimples which have been driving me nuts. I was therefore looking to take my skincare regimen back to basics and those 2 cleansers have helped me just do that.

Read on for my take on those 2 newly adopted facial soaps!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Wash

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Wash: a freshly scented gel-like texture which applies really well (1 pump is enough for the whole face) and dissolves gunk/impurities acquired overnight, leaving the skin re-energised (it’s quite citrus-y!) and feeling clean. No drying effect. A very simple yet great cleansing gel, easy to adopt and fit into a routine.

For my particular skin type and to rid it of any blemishes, I will eventually go back to my original Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser which I find just works that much better for me. But if I do manage to clear up my skin I will certainly use this one again!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pore & Shine Daily Scrub

Neutrogena Pore & Shine Daily Scrub – I’ve used this one in the evening to give my skin a good scrub and eliminate any traces of that day’s make-up & gunk.

Again, a lovely citrus-y scent and a very soft texture. The exfoliating beads aren’t too harsh so won’t leave your skin looking red & bothered…. An OK product I guess. I have however been using another cleanser/make-up remover and made sure I’ve double-cleansed my skin as I find it doesn’t quite work through ALL of my make-up if I’ve been wearing heavy foundation for example. I therefore apply some of my Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse oil to break it all down, rinse it off THEN use the Daily Scrub to clean my skin a second time.

I do however find it leaves it all soft. No sign of any dryness. I was at one point a bit concerned it might be a bit too much to use it everyday but so far my skin has reacted pretty well to it so I shall keep on using that one :)!

Have you guys used any of these products? What do you think?!
