Monthly Archives: December 2013

My dear lovely readers, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support over the past 9 months & since my very first blog post!

It has been such an exciting journey. I’ve learnt SO much about blogging, beauty, myself, you guys! I had the opportunity to meet such amazing people and attend really exciting events and for this, I have you to thank.

As we move into 2014, I pledge to keep blogging about the things I love and hopefully you do. I also promise to produce better, richer and more exciting content. I have set up a bit of a YouTube Chanel which I’ll launch properly in the next few weeks and I hope that you will enjoy watching my videos as much as you’ve enjoyed reading my posts!

Until then, I wish you all a very Happy New Year, may 2014 bring you happiness and make all of your dreams come true.

Lots of love,

Carine XO

#RandomCrush: The ‘Creative Space’

Here a lil’ look at where the magic really happens!

You might not know this but I actually work from home. Working from home was very new to me when I first joined my current organisation and I have to admit it took me a few months to adjust and to get organised.

I’ve now been doing it for over 2 years and I love it! Working from home allows a lot of flexibility. I am usually at my desk by 7am (and as soon as I’ve made myself a coffee). So by the time everyone else get to their offices, I’ve already done a couple of hours of work, uninterrupted. I do believe you get a lot more done when there are no distractions around you.

Sometimes though, it is nice to just get out and see people! Thankfully my job also gives me the opportunity to do just that.. plenty in fact!

At first I would sit at the dining table but soon had to get myself a proper desk where I could store all my files and get organised.

And here is what my little ‘Creative Space‘ looks like!

Creative Space 1

The desk itself is from Ikea and has plenty of compartments to store files and books and all my CD’s etc…

I also make sure to keep a little ‘beauty corner‘ with a stack of hand creams and lip balm, cuticule oil etc…

Desk side beauty bits

I also LOOOOVE to have a few good books and colourful notepads handy… a good mix of PR related & beauty reads. I do have one on ‘How to Start your own hair salon and spa‘… just because it is a dream of mine to one day (inch’allah) open my own little beauty heaven and this book has all of the info needed!

Brainy Reads

This also where I do all of my blogging! I usually write up my blog posts in the evening or over the weekend and make sure to schedule them to get published throughout the week. I love to write and so can very easily find myself blogging until all hours! But it’s all good fun :)

Voila, a little look inside my ‘Zone‘!

#BeautyCrush: December GlamBox Review

Oh dear, this time it is Christmas!! For real I mean… no because with GlamBox Middle East, Christmas knocks on your door every month! Oh and Santa wears an Aramex shirt!! Mind you, they are red… ahahah… lame I know!

Back to business… so I have received my December GlamBox yesterday and well, it is a nice one BUT not as exciting as the last couple of boxes so I do feel a little disappointed but the bits & bops in this edition are still good ones and I will use all of them so here is the low-down:

Eucerin Lip Balm: These always come in handy! I am one of those girls who always (ALWAYS) carry a lip balm in their hand bags and I’ve now used this one a few times and quite like it. It is very creamy and feel super nourishing so yeah, it’s a good’un!

Eucerin AQUAporin Active Eye Cream: I didn’t know Eucerin did eye cream! I like the fact that this one is fragrance free and suitable for contact lenses wearers (like moi!). The texture feels very light and has a refreshing kind of feel….I am still finishing up with my current eye cream but will be sure to try out this one next!

Nivea Smooth Sensation Body Lotion: I’ve used these in the past and they are excellent body lotions. This new one smells really nice and the cute sample size bottle will make it perfect for when I travel!

Inglot Freedom AMC Eye Shadow Square: Mine was in a lovely shimmery shade of light grey. I don’t usually wear grey BUT when doing a smokey eye, this one will look beautiful swiped along the lower lash line or to add a pop of lightening colour on the lid!

Lolita Lempika Elle L’aime Eau de Parfum: I love love love this perfume! And it is a very recent launch too so it is great to be kept up to date! A very very sweet fragrance with hints of coconut… the perfect thing to warm you up this winter!

If you’re not signed up to receive your monthly GlamBox, do so you will not regret it!! You can sign up online here.

Can’t wait for the next one!

Week #5

#InstaCrushes: The Week #5

Hope everyone had a very lovely time over Christmas? For those of you still away I hope you are enjoying your time off!

Since we decided to stay right here in Dubai during the holidays, here is a glimpse into what I’ve been up to last week….

1. Santa did come to my house… and he was wearing an Aramex shirt AND was the bearer of my much awaited December GlamBox!! Lots of little cute goodies for me to try out. Full review up on the blog on Sunday…

2. In an attempt to get myself organised and start the New Year in an ‘efficient & productive’ mode, I got this very pretty yet practical weekly planner from Paperchase! You can write your to do list for each day of the week, there’s a slot for those important phone calls, emails and event a little post-it pack… now I just need to make sure I actually use it…

3. OK I know I am not usually the one to be crazy for designer stuff BUT I did want to invest in a handbag and a pair of shoes and after months and months of saving I finally took the plunge! I did mention the bag in my previous #InstaCrushes post…

When it comes to designer bags (and when you’re only going to be one and probably won’t buy another for a year or so!) I always look for something classic but with a bit of a twist… I call it a quiet fashion statement. A trendy piece which I know won’t go out of style in the next year. My go to brand is Dolce & Gabbana… I really love their stuff and completely felt madly in love with their new Miss Sicily Shopper bag!

When it comes to shoes, I would look for quality and comfort and it drew me to walk into the Christian Louboutin store at the Dubai Mall where I tried on about 10 pairs and settled for a medium-heel nude pump which I know I can wear for work but also with jeans etc… so again, a classic piece but still on trend.

4. Hope you have seen this event invitation and will be able to come along to the Bloggers Event at The Dubai Ladies Club tomorrow from 4.30pm onwards! This is your chance to meet some of the best Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle bloggers here in Dubai and have a little fun doing so! If you do come, make sure you say hello!

5. This week I’ve been playing around with my new collection of Rimmel London Salon Pro nail polishes and I must say that I really really like them! They apply super easily and gosh, they last forever! The collection was inspired by model Kate Moss and my favorite colour is called ‘Hip Hop‘.

I really can’t wait for tomorrow’s Bloggers event and of course New Year’s Eve! We will attempt to go & watch the fireworks at the Atlantis and so I will be sure to snap these moments and share them with you in my next #InstaCrushes post!

Until then, take care!

#SalesCrush: Best of beauty sales

Alright ladies, get your credit cards ready, the SALES are ON! Yay! And to make the job easier, I’ve browsed through my favourite beauty websites and shared my top 3 must-buy products for each!

Enjoy!  The clue is in the name with this one! One of my favourite sites which stocks a vast array of ‘cult’ products! My first one has got to be the Coconut & Hibiscus Oil by Ushvani (was £38 and is now £19!). Deliciously hydrating and packed with Vitamin C this little gem can be used all-over the body and hair! PLUS it is said to help prevent stretch marks!

Next is one of the best moisturising creams ever made! The Bliss Tripple Oxygen and Vitamin C Energizing Cream (from £46 to £18.40 = a huge bargain!). I don’t need to tell what an amazing product for oily/dehydrated skin this is and now at a great price!

Last but not least, another ‘cult’ products which I’ve been meaning to try for ages, the Dr Brandt Pores no More Pore Thing (was £39 now £23.40)-  a revolutionary pore-tightening solution that helps reduce the appearance of enlarged pores whilst tackling excess sebum. Miracle in a bottle?! Another amazing website where you can find almost all of the luxury make-up & beauty brands! The first item in my shopping card has got to be the Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight Kit discounted from£96 to now £48! Next is the classic Laura Mercier Body & Bath Luxe Quarter – Creme Brulee (was GBP60 and now GBP30!) and finally the Diptyque Eau de Toilettes are now half price which is amazing! My favourite: The Diptyque Philosykos which now sells at £34!

Selfridges &Co I used to spend hours and hours walking around the store… I really miss being in London when it’s the sales but hey, thanks to the Internet AND of course, Aramex Shop & Ship, I can shop their collections, in the comfort of my living room! What’s in my shopping cart then? Well first of, the Clinique Black Honey Beauty Set which was £25 and is now £16.50! Next up, the Estee Lauder Even Skin Tone Essential Gift Set, now at £32 (just cos I’ve always wanted to try these out) and finally, the gorgeous smelling La Petite Robe Noire de Guerlain gift set at only £47 instead of £83!

Well I for one cannot wait for all of these goodies to land on my door step! Have you purchased anything on these sites? Do you have a go-to website for all your beauty bits & pieces? Let me know!

Happy ‘sales’ shopping!
