#SpaCrush: Luxury all-natural beauty at De La Mer Day Spa!

The De La Mer Day Spa is such a hidden gem! Located on Jumeirah Beach Road (opposite the Jumeirah Beach Hotel), and with a 14,000 square foot garden it really is a haven in a busy city.

Whether clients are nipping in for a quick manicure or spending a day by the pool with friends, the spa’s priority is that everyone feels at home.

De La Mer Day Spa offers a wide range of massages, scrubs, face and body treatments using  natural & organic products.  The ground floor hosts a hair salon and a well-equipped gym. A hammam and a VIP room are also available on the second floor.  Guest and members can hire the VIP room for group of friends or a party and enjoy treatments, the Jacuzzi and relaxation with total privacy.

The walled garden offers privacy with more space. A pool, Jacuzzi and seating areas encourage members to enjoy the outdoors.  Weekly yoga classes also take place in the garden.

I was recently invited to a media event hosted by the De La Mer Spa and was offered to try out 2 of their treatments! I chose their Papaya Body Wrap and their Coconut Foot Scrub.

Upon arriving, my therapist, the lovely Rose (she’s AMAZING!) led me to the most beautiful & relaxing treatment room on the 1st floor. The spa is so well decorated with shades of browns and earthy tones, it really inspires you to let go of all your worries!

Now comfortably lying on a very soft massage bed, Rose proceeded with the foot scrub. She uses pure dried coconut, mixed in with warm coconut oil and organic brown sugar! What a delight! All the ingredients are 100% natural and prepared a few minutes before our treatment! She rubbed the mixture into my feet, ankles and lower legs which was very nice and invigorating. The results? My skin was SOOOO smooth! Baby feet soft! Seriously amazing!

We then moved on to the body wrap! Again, using natural papaya fruit mashed up and mixed with a little almond oil, she smoothed the mixtured onto my whole body, wrapped me in cling film and towel to warm my skin up and allow the treatment to work deep into the skin and after 10 mins we proceeded to rinse it all off!

Papaya enzymes are said to even out skin tones, clear out any imperfections and smooth out the skin. I was amazed to feel a much smoother and hydrated skin after rinsing it all off. Rose then applied the creamiest body moisturiser from their Charme D’Orient range,  in a massaging motion which was just the most relaxing experience ever and half an hour later, a new me emerged from the cabin!

The Papaya Body Wrap is a 60-mins treatment and retails at AED290 which is really great value!

I went back down to the main reception area where I was offered a warm ginger tea and greeted by the Spa owner, the lovely Moira Pirzad. One of the nicest woman I’ve ever met. Her & her husband gave us a tour of the property and took us around the beautiful garden area where we enjoyed some healthy snacks & organic beauty talk!

I still cannot believe that a day pass to use the facilities is only AED80 or AED300 for a monthly membership! I don’t think I have ever been made to feel so ‘at home’ in a spa before and will certainly be back in a few weeks to try out more of their all organic treatments! I’m certainly intrigued by their new VOYA treatments which uses organic seaweed based products….  I shall keep you posted!!

Check out their Facebook page for more info on De La Mer Day Spa treatments & promotions. I highly recommend it!

#InterviewCrush: Skincare chat with Dermatologist & Bio-Oil Ambassador, Dr. Sonia Wilson

Hey there lovelies!

Hope you’re all having a great well? Mine is going well so far although my whole body is still in pain from running the Dubai Women’s Run 5K race on Friday morning which was though but a lot of good fun.

You remember I told you I was working on something a little different? Well, here we are!

I got given the fantastic opportunity to ask my TOP 10 skincare questions to Dr Sonia Wilson, a Specialist Dermatologist at the Department of Dermatology at RAK Hospital and a Bio- Oil ambassador here in the UAE!

Dr.Sonia Wilson

Dr.Sonia Wilson

We are all very familiar with Bio-Oil aren’t we? And I personally always keep a bottle of it in my bathroom and use it to soothe out dry skin, or even out skin tone if my skin has gone through a bit of a bad patch etc… I heard you could use it in many more ways so made sure to ask Sonia for her recommendations!

Bio-Oil_Generic_60ml_ image

I was very excited to be able to “beauty chat” with a skincare expert and when preparing my interview questions I really tried to select the ones we have all always wanted to ask so I sincerely hope these will be useful to you guys too!

How many products do I really need included in my daily skin care regimen?

Daily regime consists of appropriate Face wash, Cleanser, Moisturizer, Exfoliant (once or twice a week), advice to use Sunscreen lotion due to high UV radiations in the region.

How does Bio-Oil fit into it?

Bio-Oil formulation is a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base -PurCellin Oil™ – it is kind of a unique ingredient found in Bio-oil and this makes the formulation’s overall consistency light and non-greasy. This ensures that the goodness contained in the vitamins and plant extracts is easily absorbed by the skin.

Bio‑Oil consisting moisturizing element it helps to improve texture, tone and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Bio‑Oil contains numerous ingredients that help to soften the skin, making it softer, smoother and more supple, thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkled and sagging skin.

Do we necessarily need to invest in high end luxury skin care products?

No, the effectiveness of a skin care product depends on the ingredient in it. If a skincare product is packed with fillers and cheap ingredients, it isn’t worth much no matter how high or low the price tag is.

Personal preference is certainly a valid reason for spending a little more, because part of what you are purchasing is the experience you get when using a product.

What are the main causes of skin ageing and how can we prevent these?

Research shows that there are, in fact, two distinct types of aging. Aging caused by the genes we inherit is called intrinsic (internal) aging. The other type of aging is known as extrinsic (external) aging and is caused by environmental factors, such as exposure to the sun’s rays. Facial expressions, gravity, sleeping positions, bad habits like smoking can also influence skin aging.

While you cannot stop or even slow down the intrinsic aging process, you can prevent signs of premature aging by protecting your skin from the sun, quitting smoking, and eliminating facial exercises.

Comprehensive sun protection, proper diet, staying well hydrated, getting proper sleep, avoiding bad habits, proper skin care can help to slow down the process.

If you are bothered by visible signs of aging, a number of treatments are available. Injectable fillers and botulinum toxin are suitable for people with busy lifestyles who do not want the inconvenience of a long recovery. Radiofrequency is a procedure that offers an alternative to the traditional facelift. Dermabrasion, laser resurfacing, chemical peeling, microdermabrasion, and some topical treatments can restore skin, giving it a smoother and refreshed appearance.

How can we protect our skin from the harsh Middle Eastern sun & heat?

By staying well hydrated, having proper diet, avoiding direct exposure to sunlight especially between, 10 am to 3 pm, using sunscreens and moisturizers properly, protective clothes, hats and sunglasses. Also one should avoid diuretics like alcohol, caffeine, tea, coffee, chocolates and cigarettes that deplete water from the body.

How can we ‘combat’ those under eye fine lines?

Proper sleep, sun protection (sunscreens and sun glasses), proper diet, proper under eye creams, staying well hydrated and in resistant cases consulting a dermatologist for special procedures. As Bio-Oil is a good moisturizer use it on the skin surrounding the eye to make the lines less noticeable.

Do you recommend professional skin care treatments and if so, how often?

Yes, I recommend professional skin care treatments, frequency and type of treatment is decided on a case to case basis.

What are the latest beauty treatments & techniques celebrities are raving about?

There are lots of new treatments, for example. The Vampire Face lift (Plasmatherapy),  Microcurrent treatments, Bee Venom facial( Kate Middleton), caviar skin cream by Angelina JolieSheep Placenta facial by Victoria Beckham, Ruby and Diamond Facial ( Mila Kunis), Cellupulse Anticellulite Acoustic Wave Therapy Machine (Madonna )

How I can best use Bio-Oil to prevent/diminish stretch marks?

Bio‑Oil is formulated to help improve their appearance; the idea of stretch marks prevention is keeping the skin well-hydrated and supple. Bio-Oil’s formulation works to maximize the skin’s elasticity, thereby reducing the possibility of pregnancy stretch marks forming.

Bio‑Oil should be massaged in a circular motion into the stretch marks, twice daily, for a minimum of 3 months.

What are your TOP 5 tips to healthy looking skin?

1)      Clean your skin regularly and apply moisturizer

2)      Sun protection

3)      Proper diet and well hydration

4)      Get enough quality sleep

5)      Don’t smoke (and watch the alcohol)

Well there you have them! The secrets to gorgeous & healthy looking skin!! Not sure I will be Sheep Placenta Facial anytime soon though…

Are you going to try out some of these tips?

#BeautyCrush (the French Edit): Mes favoris du moment!

Pensez “investissement au long terme”!! (voir le produit)

2013-11-10 11.57.37

#BeautyCrush: WOMF #4

Can you guys believe we’re already in November?! That’s just mad, where does time go!

And I can’t believe I am sitting here blogging about my fourth What’s On My Face feature either yet here I am.

And so here we are with the products I have been using AND loving lately!!

Neutrogena Visibly Clear® 2 in 1 Wash and Mask – a great great time-saver product!! You can use this amazing product as a daily face wash (quite an effective one at that) and as a weekly deep cleansing mask! Been using it for a few weeks now and really liking it so far….

La Roche- Posay Serozinc – I mentioned this product in a previous post and remember I wasn’t too sure about it… well, I have now been using it for a while and must say I actually really like it! It is a purifying yet soothing zinc sulfate solution which just adds that extra touch in your cleansing routine! All of my favorite bloggers keep on raving about it and I am starting to see why! I bought mine from France and not entirely sure we can actually find it here in the UAE… will defo investigate and let you know.

Dermalogica UltraCalming Serum Concentrate – since I’ve visited the Dermalogica spa and found out I had some sensitivities on my cheeks I’ve been using this calming & soothing serum twice a day after my toner and before my moisturiser. It has been over 2 weeks now and the redness has definitively gone down and my skin feels ‘repaired’ if that makes sense! Again, another amazing product from Dermalogica

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster – I did mention in my Dermalogica treatment review that my therapist had found my forehead and T-zone to be quite dehydrated which could eventually cause fine lines and so she recommended this genius little serum which I actually had a tube of at home! I have been applying it twice a day since! You’ve gotta keep those little lines at bay for as long as possible right?!

Dermalogica Soothing Eye Serum – OK, I know this is now the 3rd Dermalogica product but really, their stuff is pretty amazing! I was gifted the new Soothing Eye Serum a couple of months ago and been not only using it every evening but loving it too! The texture is a like an oil but it sinks right into your under eye skin and does not leave any greasy film at all! It reduces dark shadows and nourishes the very sensitive skin under your eyes…

Herbline Essentials Aloe Vera & Honey Under Eye Gel – I have mentioned this one too in a previous post and I am still very much using this amazing eye gel in the morning as I just love the refreshing and awakening effect it gives! It also hydrates and plumps up my under eye skin beautifully and makes for a great make-up base. Plus it’s organic and that’s just like a great bonus to me!

Elemis Pro-Collagene Marine Cream – I wrote a full review of this amazing moisturiser and so won’t go on about it here. Just check out my post here.

Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen – Same here with this SPF which has been a regular in my skin care routine for almost 6 months now and probably will be for a very very long time!! Full review here.

Herbline Essentials Apricot & Honey Face Scrub – Ladies, you’ve GOTTA exfoliate at least once a week to get rid of dry skin and impurities! And no, this is not up for a debate! I’ve been ‘scrubbing’ for years and my skin is very thankful for it. An excellent one is the new Apricot & Honey Face Scrub from one of my top skin care brands, Herbline EssentialsThis delicious smelling scrub has a deep moisturising effect whilst the apricot oil and fruit extracts work together to help remove blackheads, nourish dehydrated skin, exfoliate and even out the skin tone.

Lush Santa’s Lip Scrub – I’ve got to confess to have been a smoker for many years (way too many in fact but I’m French yeah, that’s what we do!) and so have been suffering from dry lips ever since! I did quit the cancer sticks a while ago but still have very dry lips so really, discovering this genius little lip scrub was a revelation! You just rub it in, rinse and voila! Gorgeous soft & hydrated lips guaranteed! This one is from Lush’s Christmas collection and I also have the Pop Corn Lip Scrub which is yum!

Biorderma Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution – I discovered this genius little pink product in the Special Edition Tala Samman GlamBox back in June (read the full review) and have been using it to remove my eye make-up every night every since! As a contact lenses wearer I need to ensure I use a non-irritating eye make-up remover and this one is just perfect at both taking even the most stubborn mascara off and soothing my eyes at the same time. Defo a keeper!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this month’s What’s On My Face post. If you have recently discovered a product you absolutely love (or hate) do share in the comments section!

#TreatmentCrush: Dermalogica Deep Cleansing Facial Treatment

I don’t know how often you guys get a facial but I hadn’t had a proper one in absolutely ages!!

When the opportunity to check out the Dermalogica store in the Dubai Mall presented itself, I jumped on the occasion to treat myself (and my skin) to some much needed pampering!

Baring in mind I am a HUGE fan of their products and have been using them for year I was super excited to try out their treatments.

As you walk into the store, you are first asked to fill in a profile form where you describe your skin type, products you currently use, concerns you may have etc… this in turn helps the therapist tailor the treatment to your skins requirements!

Mine was a lovely lady called Gosia! She took me to one of the very relaxing and comfy treatment rooms where she proceeded to remove my make-up and examine my skin a little further. She explained my skin looked a little de-hydrated on the forehead and a little ‘congested’ on the cheeks & T-zone. Now she did also mentioned my skin looked ‘very well groomed’ which is re-assuring since I spend an insane amount of time AND money on magic potions!!

She therefore opted for the 60 minutes Deep Cleansing Facial!

The treatment was UNBELIEVABLEGosia, was just amazingly gentle and described each steps and products used during the treatment and believe me, there was quite a few, as you can see below:

– Soothing additive

– Soothing eye make-up remover

– Pre-cleanse

– Special Cleansing gel + Dermal clay cleanser

– Daily microfolients – exfolient accelerator 35

– Scalling fluid

– Post extraction solution

– Ultracalming complex

– Oil free massage oil + soothing additive

– Oatmeal mask

– Ultracalming mist

– Medibac complex + Ultracalming complex

– Active Moist + barrier repair + pure light SPF30

As I looked at my skin after the treatment, I was very surprised to see it was all plumped up, re-energized and just so glowy!!

Gosia, then proceeded to put together my personal ‘face mapping® skin analysis’ which is a Dermalogica exclusive technique where the skin is divided in 14 different zones and products are recommended for your very personal needs.

This is what mine looks like!

I did pick up a few good tips and Gosia very kindly gifted a few samples so that I could try some of her recommended products at home and I must say, I will definitively be back to purchase their Pre-Cleanse Oil and Barrier Repair protective moisturiser!

This treatment costs AED475 (a little pricey I know BUT it is so well worth it!!). To book, simply call +971 4 339 8250.

The Dermalogica store at the Dubai Mall is on Level 1.

A HUGE thank you to the Dermalogica team & Asha at Healthcare LLC !! I can’t wait to come by & visit again soon!
